It's A Man's World
The return of the art of barbering has put the spotlight on men’s grooming more than ever…and it’s about time we say at Salon Yazbek! A great haircut has the power to really amp up a guy’s style factor, regardless if they are 17 or 71. Just ask our fearless leader Nathan Yazbek, who not only sports a serious crop of cool curls, but is also a certified Aveda haircutting educator, so we figure he knows a thing or two about men’s hair. We asked Nathan for his take on the hottest trends in the world of men’s hair right now…
RUGGED
“Think David Beckham – his hair is still the hottest men’s style currently on trend! His look is always masculine, not too preppy or clean, but has the perfect balance of manly ‘rugged-ness’.
David is currently sporting extra length through the top, with subtle blending to the sides and back. The outlines of his haircut are not too clean, you’ll notice his hair doesn’t have that ‘fresh cut from the salon’ look about it. It’s been worn in, a little rugged. The emphasis on his haircut is matte texture with a swept back finish.
To get this cool tousled style, I recommend styling with Aveda Men’s Grooming Clay. This lightweight clay adds strong hold without adding shine and provides the control you need to create any style. As an added bonus, the entire Aveda men’s range smells great, with a masculine rich spicy aroma of citrus, vetiver and spearmint. The grooming clay will work for all hair types, from fine all the way to thicker textures.”
TIDY
“This is somewhere between a rugged look and a ‘hipster fade’. This is the ultimate low maintenance option, but very on trend. Think Jurassic World’s Chris Pratt – it’s clean through the sides, not too tight or faded and not overtly long on the top, but just that perfect amount of texture to create a messy look. It says: ‘I am not too conservative, but I’m a man of style.’
When it comes to styling this look, Aveda Control paste will give the hair a high-textured, low shine look that’s smooth, not sticky, and leaves the hair pliable enough to play with. Emulsify a 20-cent size amount of Control Paste into your hand and work through dry hair with your fingertips. You can add more product as desired.”
MODERN FADE
“The ‘Ivy League’ or ‘Crew Cut’ is still a winner for lots of guys. Men feel sharp, masculine and tidy when the sides of their haircut are super short and faded. This cut works really well when the top of the head is long enough to style with a side part. Think Steve Willis… he has a very short crew cut and parts his hair over to the side using a high shine product such as Aveda Pomade. It helps mould and style short hair into any shape and provides strong hold with lasting shine. Just work a small amount between the palms and apply evenly through damp or dry hair…and your beard too if you’re sporting one!”
